The Union City Police Department is mourning the loss of a second officer to COVID-19 in less than a month.
Lieutenant Brandon Owens contracted COVID-19 and was admitted to the ICU in January.
The department shared the news on their Facebook page today writing:
"There are no words to express our heartbreak. Lt. Owens gained eternal healing this afternoon after long, very hard fight with COVID and it's effects.
Lt. Owens was the epitome of a servant. He spent many years and multiple tours overseas with the U.S. Army before being retired. Lt. Owens brought that leadership and servitude with him into the law enforcement profession, and was an officer that ALL officers should strive to emulate. Lt. Owens was the person that would literally give you his shirt if you needed one. He dedicated his life to helping people, and the joy he received from that is unmatched.
Lt. Owens is also the father that all fathers should be. He would do everything in his power to support his girls, and was always there for their special events.
Please keep Lt. Owens' family in your prayers.

The news comes after Union City Police Chief Richard Stephens contracted COVID-19 and was admitted to the ICU in December. He passed away February 4th.
