A local Police Department is mourning the loss of their Police Chief after a battle with COVID-19.
Union City Police Chief Richard Stephens contracted the virus and was admitted to the intensive care unit in December.
"It is with great pain that we must announce the passing of the greatest Police Chief we ever had the opportunity to work for. Chief Stephens' was the epitome of a Great Leader: he put his people first, he inspired everyone around him, and he truly cared for people. Today, we lost a brother, a friend, and true hero. Rest Easy, Chief. We have the Watch. Please keep Chief Stephens' family in your constant thoughts and prayers. We all will miss him dearly." the Union City Police Department posted on Facebook.
I actually knew Chief Stephens and he was truly one of a kind. He was a strong leader, one of the nicest people you could ever meet, and incredibly selfless. He put everyone before himself whether you were one of his officers or a stranger on the street. My daughter told me a couple years ago she wanted to be a Police Officer and when I mentioned this to Chief Stephens he told me to bring her to the Police Department because he had something for her. That's the kind of man that Chief Stephens was.
